Sharing a love of golf with her father Ross, Rivah has just competed in her first tournament.
Part of the Juniors on The Move (JOM) program, she will compete in another four tournaments in coming months.
Each tournament is a nine hole event, and they are held at courses all over NSW.
The next will be in Deniliquin on May 21.
The program provides an opportunity for juniors to learn new skills, and it is a great way to introduce kids to golf and make new friends.
It is the perfect introduction to competitive golf for children aged between six and 14.
“Rivah has been coming out on the Deniliquin Golf Club course with me for about two years now, after school and on the weekends,” Ross said.
“She has since had a couple of lessons and has been to a few clinics with Jody Fleming at the Deniliquin Golf Club.”
What started as a chance to spend time with family has turned into a passion for young Rivah.
“I enjoy having a hit and driving the cart around, and also playing with pop (Jim Jenkins) in the backyard,” Rivah said.
“I love being outdoors and spending time with dad just hitting balls.
“My favourite golfers are Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau, and my favourite club to hit with is the driver.”
When the Pastoral Times asked Ross about his daughter’s strengths and weaknesses, he laughed.
“Her strengths are hitting her driver and hybrid, and her weakness is definitely putting,” he shared.
Rivah was happy with her first tournament and said “it was amazing”.
“I got to see that my practice was paying off and I can’t wait for the next one in Deniliquin, so the rest of the family can come and watch,” she said.
Tivah also enjoys watching others play golf, and was in the crowd when the TPS Murray River event was played at the Cobram-Barooga Golf Club earlier this year.
“She was so excited that Sarah Jane-Smith (the winner of the event), gave her the golf glove that she used and also signed her hat,” Ross said.
“More recently we attended the New South Wales Open at Rich River Golf Club where she met Harrison Crowe, who played in this year’s Masters, and David Micheluzzi who won the event and also signed her hat.
“I cant wait for the upcoming MND Golf Day at the Deniliquin Golf Club where Rivah and I can play alongside each other in a team, and compete in our first competition together.“
Rivah is scheduled to compete in four more tournaments on the JOM program schedule - Deniliquin Golf Club on May 21, Murray Downs Golf Club on August 6, Barham Golf Club on August 20 and Rich River Golf Club on September 10.
