This grant will cover the partial cost of playing lights being erected over another four lawn courts - courts one to four.
The total cost of the project is $82,250.
The project has been some time in coming to fruition, and club president Harley Moore said the committee is grateful to Tennis NSW for its support.
“Tennis in Deniliquin is played mostly over the summer months, and the chance to play twilight tennis on our lawn courts to escape the heat of the day has been part of plans of the club back since John Henderson was president,’ Moore said.
“While we are sometime from work beginning on the project, the long-term availability of eight lit courts will be a huge improvement for the comps and for casual players.”
The news comes as DLTC prepares to launch its next season, with a 10-week twilight comp commencing on Wednesday, October 15.
Those wishing to play are asked to nominate to denitennisclub@gmail.com or phone John Henderson on 0427 814 947 or Clive Gow on 0427 489 490.
The Wednesday twilight spring competition is a social event, and open to anyone interested in having a hit of tennis and playing on high-class lawn and hard courts in Charlotte St, Deniliquin.
The competition will be a graded doubles competition, with men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. Players of all skill levels are welcome.
Teams will be picked, and all players graded after the nominations have closed on Friday, October 10.
Play is from 6pm on Wednesday evenings, usually wrapping up about 8.30pm.
Each player will play three one set matches each week. You will be partnered with someone from your team.
The final night of pre-season hit ups will be held next Wednesday, October 8 from 6pm.
Be there for a practice against the ball machines, or for a little coaching before nominating.
