Our local junior program was again to the fore on Monday when the Deniliquin Junior Open golf tournament was held.

Among the leading local performers were Rivah Taylor, who won the girls’ scratch event, while Jack McGrillen was overall net winner and Ollie Dellwo was a net runner-up.
The Deni juniors backed up their Monday success when some travelled to Finley on Tuesday for its Open.

The junior tournament was part of a busy week on the golf course.
Last Thursday was 6x6x6 stableford and winners were Leanne Landy, Yvonne Holmes and Carol Hardman with 84, from runners-up Jane Glowrey, Sarah Aitken and Karen Butcher on 78.
In the Friday veteran’s competition, the winner was Lee Pattinson with 24 points, well ahead of runner-up Ron Friend on 17.

Saturday was a fourball best ball, won by Terry Howe and Marg Rothwell with 49 points, from runners-up Jack McGrillen and Charlie Rennie on 48.
Tuesday was back 9 stableford off the gold markers, won by Bernadette Murphy with 22 points from runner-up Leanne Landy on 18.
Wednesday’s stableford event attracted a good field with three grades. A
-grade winner was Troy Grant with a super round of 39 points off his 2 handicap, on countback from runner-up Tom Maw.
The B-grade winner was Jenny Swainger with 36 points from runner-up Wayne Pitts on 34, and C-grade winner Mitchell Jefferies with 40 points from runner-up Marg Radeski 36.
On Monday, a Deni contingent travelled to Numurkah for the first round of the 2026 Goulburn Valley Veterans Championships.
Best performed were John Radeski in A-grade and Neil Boswell in B-grade, who both figured in the ball comp and are not far off the pace in their respective grades.
The next round of the championships is at Hill Top (Tatura) on Monday, October 19.
There is plenty of golf coming up, starting tomorrow with a medley stroke, including the men’s monthly medal and medal of medals.
Next Tuesday is stroke and putting on the front 9, Wednesday is stableford, Thursday is 9 and 18 holes stableford, Friday is veterans’ stableford and next Saturday is stableford for the coveted Borella Cup.
Then we kick off the 2026 Veterans’ Week of Golf, to be held from October 12.
Veterans from near and far will join local golfers for this event.
It will start with a fourball best ball on Monday, October 12, followed by 18 hole stableford events on the Tuesday and Thursday.
The week will culminate with NSW VGA Trophy Day on Friday, October 16.

Also coming up is the Summer 6’s, which starts the week of October 19.
Get together your team of six players, or individual entries are welcome and will be placed in a team.
The competition is open to members and non-members, with more information and team entries at the pro shop.
The bistro continues to be open from Wednesday to Sunday, lunch and dinner, offering quality meals at a reasonable price.
Friday Night Fun is on again tonight, with happy hour from 6pm, and raffle tickets are on sale from 6pm with draws from 7pm.
