The long-distance triathlon format, the Ironman, is known for its gruelling nature.
The traditional version consists of a 3.9 km swim, a 180.2 km bicycle ride and a 42.2 km marathon run, completed in that order.
Events take place around the world, including the more common Ironman 70.3 or Half Ironman events.
No walk in the park, Hillier completed the Ironman 70.3 in Geelong which was made up of a 1.9 km ocean swim, 90 km bike ride, and 21.1 km half-marathon run.
He managed to finish the race just six hours and one minute.
After training for months in advance, the Ironman competitor was really happy with the effort.
Not a stranger to major athletic challenges, Hillier has taken on two marathons in the past year.
This included the 2025 Gold Coast Marathon in July and the 2025 Melbourne Marathon in October in the past year, as well as taking part in the HYROX Melbourne event with the Deniliquin Motiv8 team in December.
While not locked into any future Ironman events, Hillier’s successful Geelong Ironman will not be the last long-distance athletic challenge he takes on.
He’s already booked into run the 2026 Gold Coast Marathon later this year.
