In what will be a great warm-up, the side will play Barellan for the Proten Cup preseason knock tomorrow.
It will afford the Blue Heelers an opportunity to play some rugby before the season kicks off.
In previous years, a knockout game has been played across two 15 minute halves.
Last year, Rankin Springs was the host.
As it is a knockout format, the Blue Heelers will have to be competitive if they want to play more than one game.
“We really are using this knockout in Barellan as a chance to get a game or two in before the season starts,” co-coach Drew Hinkley said.
“We have a number of players who are playing rugby league for the first time, and guys who have played union and Aussie rules but not league.
“But we also have some guys with experience.”
The club continue to build toward the Proten competition's start, with players from the Finley region adding to the local pool of talent.
With new uniforms the team looks the part, and there has been discussion about extra training to build.
One of the most significant adjustments for players and newcomers will be the very specific set of rules they have in the Proten competition.
Some of the rules that differ from other leagues and the NRL include that the defence only has to retreat 5m to be onside, there are only two tacklers allowed in the tackle, and halves have been shortened.
Hinkley believes there needs to be a solid game plan and understanding of the rules and an understanding of the role of players.
“Again, it is one of those things where we need to be on top of our understanding of the rules.
“We need to play high possession, error-free rugby league, if we’re able to do this it will put us in good stead for the season and the knockout.
“It is usually the difference when these things are able to be executed.”
In round one of the competition proper on May 24, the Blue Heelers will play in Ivanhoe against Hillston.
