He met with local basketball fans and donated a state-of-the-art ‘Dr Dish’ basketball shooting machine to support player development.
Landale, who currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies and has previously suited up for the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, spent an hour at the stadium engaging with the community.
His visit included a demonstration of the new training machine, followed by a meet and greet where he signed an estimated 150 autographs and posed for a similar number of photos.
The donation was described as “very, very generous” by stadium manager John Arthur, who praised both the gift and the impact of Landale’s presence.
“It’s a great tool, and we want people to come down and use it,” Arthur said.
The machine allows a person to train their shooting independently, acting like a personal re-bounder, a wide net means a missed shot will still be returned.
The event was made possible thanks to Jock’ parents Clive and Suellen Landale, who helped co-ordinate the visit.
They had previously informed stadium staff of Jock’s desire to give back to the facility where he had trained as a junior.
While in Deniliquin on Saturday, an impromptu three point contest was organised against two parents and two kids.
It will come as no surprise that Landale won easily.
Despite competing local football finals, the turnout on Saturday was strong, with at least 70 kids and their parents attending the session.
Landale’s visit follows a recent appearance by former NBL MVP Cal Bruton, adding to the growing list of basketball icons connecting with the Deniliquin community.
With such high-profile support, expect some very motivated local Deni junior basket ballers for this upcoming season.
The brand new ‘Dr Dish’ basketball shooting machine is already getting plenty of use.
