Mulwala rocketed up the Murray Football League senior ladder after halting Moama’s six-game winning streak at Lonsdale Reserve on Saturday.
The Lions, who now sit second on the ladder with a healthy percentage, outclassed the Magpies from the outset and raced to a 40–0 quarter-time lead on the back of six unanswered goals.
The Lions extended their run of consecutive majors to 11 during the second term while continuing to keep Moama goalless.
The visitors finally hit the scoreboard during the period but only managed three behinds and trailed 0.3 (3) to 11.7 (73) at half-time.
The Lions continued their barrage to open the second half, with the run of consecutive goals reaching 15.
Mulwala led 101–4 at one stage before Moama found its first major just before three-quarter time.
The Magpies showed plenty of heart in the fourth term, but their fate had long been sealed as Mulwala posted a commanding 19.18 (132) to 4.4 (28) victory.
The Lions will travel to face third-placed Nathalia in a clash that could determine a double chance in the finals before a well-timed bye.

Mulwala came out of the blocks full of energy and applied relentless pressure in the opening quarter.
Bryon Dodd opened the scoring with the first goal of the match as the Lions dominated the early exchanges to take a deserved 1.1 (7) to 0.0 (0) lead into quarter-time.
The Lions maintained their advantage early in the second term before Moama turned the game on its head with a blistering burst of six goals.
The Magpies seized control of the contest and headed into the main break with a commanding 6.3 (39) to 2.3 (15) lead.
Mulwala responded well after half-time, adding three goals during the third quarter to cut into the margin.
However, Moama matched the challenge to maintain a 7.4 (46) to 5.4 (34) advantage at the final change.
The Magpies finished strongly, kicking four goals to two during the final term to secure an impressive 27-point victory, 11.7 (73) to 7.4 (46).
Despite the loss, Mulwala continued to compete throughout the afternoon.
The Lions were well served by Jack Butler, Ned Saunders, Fletcher Woodhead, Tyce Woodhead, Levi Purtle and Nate Leith, who all worked tirelessly across the four quarters.
Fourths

Mulwala made a slow start in wet conditions and found themselves several goals behind at half-time.
The Lions were challenged to lift after the main break and responded with a much-improved second half, but the early deficit proved too great to overcome.
Ben Ferg was outstanding throughout the game and led the way with his fearless attack on the contest.
Dayne was his dynamic self, collecting plenty of possessions and providing drive around the ground.
Colin worked tirelessly from start to finish, covering the ground relentlessly and never giving up.
Nash impressed in the ruck with his repeat efforts and competitiveness, while Ryder was a constant threat up forward with his clever craft and ability to create opportunities.
Mitch showed plenty of courage and attacked every contest with his trademark commitment.
Netball
A Grade
Mulwala 62 defeated Moama 28
The Lions came out firing in A Grade in what was a crucial contest for the team on Saturday.
With injuries mounting and some players returning for their first game back, the line-up needed to look a little different.
However, this did not deter the team from producing four quarters of great netball in a physical contest.
The players maintained their composure and played steady, smart and team-oriented netball to build their margin during every quarter before finishing with a 34-goal victory.
Steph Ferguson stood tall at goal shooter throughout the game, maintaining her composure, taking on everything that came her way and converting most of her opportunities.
Georgie Hemphill was the backline leader for the Lions and created numerous turnovers for the team to convert.
Working in tandem with Georgie in defence, Jess Thomson produced great deflections, collected strong rebounds and displayed plenty of composure in the defensive end.
In her 50th game for the side, Jedda Nolan formed the third part of the defensive wall, creating numerous turnovers and bringing the ball down the court beautifully as she celebrated her 50th consecutive game in style.
The players could be extremely proud of their efforts in a game that could have gone either way.
They rose to the occasion, played team-first netball and consolidated their position at the top of the ladder.
B Grade

C Grade
Mulwala 33 lost to Moama 55
It was a tough game for the C Grade side.
With second playing third, the team knew it was going to be a hard-fought battle.
After trailing by seven goals at quarter-time, the side was unable to work its way back into the game.
The team’s defensive pressure was excellent, creating multiple turnovers and disrupting the opposition’s play.
Unfortunately, some simple errors meant the side was unable to convert those turnovers into scoreboard pressure.
The team continued to work hard and support one another throughout the game.
The players will take the lessons from the match, continue building their gameplay and return ready for the next challenge.
C Reserve
Mulwala 14 defeated by Moama 62
The team came up against very tough opposition and, despite the result, never gave up throughout the game.
Its determination and effort were evident from start to finish.
Addye gave her all, working hard to move the ball down the court and consistently applying pressure to her opponent.
Mim displayed an outstanding work rate, never giving up and competing hard for the entire game.
Alannah faced a challenging match-up in defence but continued to work hard and battled until the final whistle.
It was a tough game, but the team will bounce back.

The players took on Moama at home on a crisp winter’s morning in what turned out to be a fantastic contest.
Coming up against a strong and well-drilled side, the players rose to the challenge and matched Moama throughout the game, going goal for goal in an exciting battle.
While Moama managed to edge away during the final stages to claim a five-goal victory, it was an incredibly strong performance from the Mulwala team.
The goalers were on fire and converted consistently under pressure, while the defenders were rock solid throughout the game and made every possession difficult for the opposition.
The midcourt stepped up to another level, working tirelessly to transition the ball and support both ends of the court.
Although the result did not go their way, the players could be extremely proud of how they performed against such a quality side.
Coaches Nat and Sally had an incredibly tough job selecting the award winners, with every player contributing and deserving recognition.
The Commercial Glazing Solutions award went to Jade McInerney, the team’s little pocket rocket, who ran the opposition off their feet with her relentless effort up and down the court.
The Thursday Night Dinner Voucher was awarded to Poppy Kirchen for her outstanding performance at goal defence, where she applied constant pressure, unsettled the shooters and proved that determination and timing could outweigh height.
To top off a great team performance, the opposition umpire made a point of approaching coach Nat after the game to commend the players for their politeness and sportsmanship on the court, something the entire team could be very proud of.
It was a tough loss, but the players had plenty to be proud of and deserved plenty of praise for their performance.
