A Deniliquin Bowling Club combination led by Jamie Shields were the first day winners at Deniliquin RSL King’s Birthday Two Bowls Triples tournament.

Shane Laing and Paul Snare joined Shields to take the sectional title over a Neville Bowland led Kangaroo Flat combination.
The final was a classic contest under lights with the local team down 0-6 after three ends of a 6-end contest.
However, they staged a remarkable comeback, taking six shots over the next two ends to trail 6-7 coming to the final end.
They then scored a two on the final end for an outstanding victory 8-7.
Other local bowlers fared well with the RSL team of Larry Seeley, Rod Reid and Gaye Goodwin going down in an extra end playoff to just miss the final.
From Sunday’s playoff competition, the winners were the Moama combination of David Lonnie, Merv Harvey and Tony Hawley.
Runners-up were Leisa Rooney of Echuca, Chris Taylor from the Deni Bowling Club and Trevor McColl from Echuca.
Third was the Kyneton Golf trio of Toby Barker, Rick Seymour and Barry Godbatt.
Monday was a ‘wins plus shots up’ competitions.
The Yarrawonga-Mulwala combination of Garry Murmane, Brad Mitchell and Michael Szabo were winners.
Deni RSL’s Larry Seeley, Chris Frampton and Rod Reid were runners-up and the Kangaroo Flat team of Neville Bowland, Barry Hogan and Leigh Robertson were third.
It was a very successful weekend with 56 teams for both Saturday and Sunday, and 28 teams on Monday.
Deni RSL Bowls president Tony Tonta was very appreciative of the great support from visiting and local bowlers and acknowledged the welcome and valued sponsorship of the Deniliquin RSL, Purtill Group and Baker’s Delight.
He also thanked his committee and club members for their welcome support and tireless efforts over the weekend.
