But all is not lost.
The Deniliquin Racing Club will host what is referred to as a phantom race meet.
All the trackside entertainment will go ahead, including Fashions on the Field.
Metropolitan races will be broadcast, and full TAB and bookmaker facilities will be available.
Track stewards made the call to abandon racing at about 2pm today, due to the amount of standing water after last night’s deluge.
General admission will now be free, and tickets already purchased through Eventbrite will be refunded.
The Peppercorn Marquee will still be operating as normal.
Anyone who has purchased a Peppercorn ticket via Eventbrite can request a refund if they decide not to attend.
It will still be a great social day with good weather forecast.
The meeting coincides with a huge day on the national racing calendar, with the $20 million The Everest at Royal Randwick, and Caulfield Cup Day in Melbourne.
A wide range of categories for excellent prizes will be judged in Fashions on the Field in categories including Junior Boy and Girl 0-12 years; Senior Boy and Girl 13-17 years; Millinery; Lady of the Day; Contemporary Lady of the Day; Gentleman of the Day; and Couple of the Day.
There will also be live musical entertainment provided by the cover-band Fallout, featuring Bek Mills and Anthony Reeves, and there will be food and refreshments, including bar facilities.
A courtesy bus will operate from designated pick-up and drop-off points around town.
An additional feature of the Cup Day celebrations will be a Caulfield Cup Calcutta, to be held at the Deniliquin Bowling Club tonight. Tickets, at $5 each, will be available from 6pm.
