Mathoura will host grand finals across 11 grades of football and netball, involving nine clubs seeking premiership glory.
Mathoura president Blake Keech said between players, families, officials and spectators, he expects it to be a huge day for the club and the town.
“No words can even really describe how big the day’s going to be,” he said.
“I’ve been saying to those from the club to turn up (and help run the day), as it could set us up for the next few years.
“There’s about 100 people on the roster, and we’ve had 40 to 50 people who have said ‘I’ll do whatever’.
“The support even from people not involved with the club has been great.
“Everyone’s getting involved within the community, and we’re also getting help from Echuca-Moama and Deniliquin.
“Everyone has put in a power of work, so we can’t wait.”
The stars have aligned for an entertaining grand final day, Keech said.
“I think Mike Brady (singer of ‘Up There Cazaly’ ) has caught a lot of people’s attention.
“Importantly the weather’s going to be good.
“And I’ve said it before, but with the best two sides in all grades playing off, it should be a great day of netball and football.
“We’ve set our sights on how we want the day to look, and I guess we just hope and pray that’s the way it goes.”
The day’s grand final play starts with the under-15s netball from 8.50am and the under-14s football from 9am.
The Deniliquin Rovers are the only club from the PT coverage area featuring in grand final matches, with five sides playing for flags - the A-grade, C-grade, under-17s and under-15s netballers and fourths footballers.
Starting things off are the under-15s against Tungamah. The Rovers have been formidable all season, but will face a true top-two match-up against the Bears who are the undefeated minor premiers.
The Deni side only lost one match this season too, which was the June round 10 match-up at Tungamah 30-33. It sets up what could be one of the closest grand-finals of the day.
Not long after, the fourths will get started on the footy field against Barooga.
Deni will again have a challenge ahead of them against the minor premiers, who have won every match since losing in round one to Tocumwal.
When the two sides last played in May’s round six clash, Barooga handed the Rovers one of their two losses for the season 27-80.
However, the young Rovers side have shown their quality winning their last two finals by nine points and 64 points respectively.
Next up for Deni will be the under-17s netballers, taking on Rennie from 10.10am.
The Rovers are the minor premiers and have been the stand-out team for their age group. They have only lost one match this season, in round three to Blighty.
The under-17s face a familiar match-up in their premiership decider, having played and defeated Rennie twice this season. The last was three weeks ago in the qualifying final, 53-47.
From 1.30pm, the Rovers will be in action on two courts.
The A-grade side play Dookie United while C-grade will battle it out with Tungamah.
Both are re-matches from qualifying three weeks ago, both won by Deni.
In the top division, the Rovers beat Dookie 41-29.
Rovers C-grade, who were minor premiers, won their previous encounter after two five-minute periods of overtime and a final result of 42-40.
If those qualifying results are anything to go by tomorrow’s grand finals should be just as enthralling with premierships on the line.
