After a challenging 2025 season on both the football field and netball court the club is entering 2026 with renewed purpose and a strong determination to re‑establish itself as a competitive within the Picola League.
The Timbercutters last year only managed two wins in the A grade netball and no wins in the senior football.
While results last season were difficult, there is a clear sense of optimism around the club as it looks to build momentum — although they are on the lookout for continued community support which will be vital to that journey.
One of the club’s biggest positives heading into the new season is stability.
About 90 per cent of both players and committee members have been retained from last year, providing valuable continuity and a solid foundation to build upon.
This consistency has been further strengthened by recruitment, with new faces adding depth, energy and enthusiasm across both football and netball programs.
The football department has also benefited from continuity at the coaching level.
The senior coaching panel remains intact, with Adam Bourke continuing in the role of senior coach, supported by assistant coaches Clint Atkinson (forwards), Jaydan Turner (midfield) and Clint McNabb (backs).
At reserve grade level, the club has appointed local duo Zac Vesty and Jaydan Turner as co‑coaches, where the pair look to reinforce a strong commitment to developing local talent, building depth, and creating clear pathways within the club.
The netball program is also showing positive signs, having retained the majority of the playing group from last season while welcoming several new recruits.
Try‑outs for the 2026 season are currently underway, with healthy numbers and genuine competition for spots highlighting the growing strength of the program.
Training is underway at Mathoura ahead of the 2026 season.
Off the field, the club continues to move forward.
The committee and support staff have built on last year’s efforts, with Blake Keech remaining as club president and backed by a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the club running and improving.
Pride in its off‑field culture remains a cornerstone of the Mathoura Football Netball Club and its history.
Known for its welcoming, family‑friendly environment, the club offers a strong sense of community and an enjoyable lifestyle that extends well beyond game day.
The Mathoura FNC is looking for community support to help them improve from last year's results.
While the outlook for 2026 is positive, the club has acknowledged it cannot grow alone.
They are seeking any additional players, supporters, volunteers and sponsors, who are crucial to ensuring long‑term success.
The Mathoura Football Netball Club is keen to welcome anyone interested in becoming involved in what shapes as an exciting year ahead.
