Deniliquin Little Athletics has been abuzz in recent weeks, with the budding athletes enjoying some beautiful spring weather breaking some records and posting plenty of Personal Bests (PBs) along the way.
There were a massive 103 PBs broken in Week 8 of competition, which shows the improvement since the beginning of the season. Poppy Armytage was a standout, bettering four of her PBs.
Oli Hall broke a 20 year-old club record in the U9 boys 800m with a time of 2:51.71, the record previously posted by Brenton Loudon in 2003 (2:53.15).
It’s worth noting that second placegetter, Jake Woolston, also eclipsed the record and was only half a second behind Oli in what was a great race to the end.
Oli also set a new club record in the U9 400m with a time of 1:17.90.
Levi Robson broke his own record set only a couple of weeks earlier, posting 2:59.88 in the U8 boys 700m, while Max Woolston set a new benchmark in the U7 boys 500m with a sizzling time of 2:10.95.
Lucy Tubb set a new record in the U8 girls 700m last Friday, with a time of 3:00.67.
Tomorrow the club hosts the Deniliquin Carnival at the Rams’ Hardinge St oval, starting from 1.30pm. Parent helpers are welcome, as too are spectators.
A couple of weeks ago more than 20 club members competed at the Finley carnival which was a very successful day.
Little Athletics is held each Friday at the Hardinge St oval starting from 5pm.
