Whelan’s ton takes trophy-DDCA brings home Div 2 trophy
Despite a shock loss to Upper Loddon last Thursday, the Deniliquin District Cricket Association intertown side held their second position ladder placing and regrouped to win the Bendigo Country Cricket Week Division Two grand final on Friday.
The side held on to win by 14 runs in a nailbiting encounter with Warrnambool.
The win came after a stunning century from intertown veteran David Whelan and a solid half-century from star batsman Andrew Grimshaw.
Whelan smashed 12 boundaries and two sixes on his way to compiling 112 and combined with Grimshaw to carve up a 118 run second wicket stand.
Deniliquin won by 14 runs.
Final score: Deniliquin 7/243 def Warrnambool 229.
