The Deniliquin Rhinos Cricket Club welcomes players of all skill levels to participate in the local and Murray Valley Cricket Association competitions.
It has been a big off season for the club, with the last of the recovery work from the 2022 floods recently taking place, ahead of the club hosting the St Kilda Cricket Club for its preseason matches on September 20 and 21.
Recruiting has also been taking place in earnest, with some new blood to be introduced to the Rhinos line-up this year.
The Rhinos will field a side in the A-grade competition, which begins next Saturday, October 11.
They will be looking for redemption after a three wicket loss to Cobram in last season’s grand final.
The opener is a 45 over a side one-day fixture against Katamatite, at Katamatite.
In the off-season, the Rhinos announced former Berrigan star opening bowler and top order batsman Rory Bartlett will join the side.
Berrigan is not fielding an A-grade side this year.
Bartlett made the A-grade MVCA league team of the year for the 2023-24 season and will strengthen the Rhinos’ ranks this season.
Completing the set of senior outfits, the Rhinos will this season also enter a B-grade side this year.
The side will also open the season on October 11 against Katamatite, but here in Deni at Memorial Park.
It’s a level up for the Rhinos, who have only fielded A and C-grade sides in the past few years.
C-grade won back-to-back premierships against Nathalia in the 2024-25 season, and players are looking forward to a new challenge in B-grade and 40 over one-day cricket.
Training for the senior sides moves to Thursday nights starting this week.
For the juniors, depending on interest, the club hopes to form under-15s and under-13s teams in the MVCA, as well as an under-13s Deniliquin district competition.
The club will also offer Rhinos Blast for those aged five to nine.
The under-15s will play 40 over, two-day games in the MVCA on Saturday mornings.
The under-13s in the MVCA play 20 over, one-day games on Thursday or Friday evenings.
Rhinos Blast will be at Deniliquin Stadium on Fridays from 4pm to 4.40pm, starting October 17 and running until December 5.
The youngsters will participate in modified games, with all equipment provided.
Rhinos gear is available with registration, not online, and the cost is $60 to reduce costs for families starting out.
If you're interested in joining, head along to a training session or message the Deniliquin Rhinos’ Facebook page.
