After winning the Murray River Council Juniors Sportsperson Award last year, the Deniliquin High School student has this year been presented with the Edward River Council Junior Sports Award.
It is awarded to a resident aged 25 years or younger who has demonstrated an outstanding record of achievement in sport or through their involvement as an administrator, official or coach, or who has made a significant contribution to the growth, development and/or increased participation of their sport within the Edward River region.
Connor has shown aptitude in a number of sporting disciplines in his youth, but is now squarely focused on shot put.
“Connor Wilson is an exceptional young athlete whose dedication and achievements in shot put have brought pride to Deniliquin and the Edward River region,” his citation reads.
“Connor holds school records in every age group he has competed in and has represented his school and community at Riverina, state, all schools and national levels.
“He broke the NSW All Schools State record with a throw of 18.88m and has placed third nationally, with further national competition ahead.
“Connor's goals are to attend the Youth Games and Oceania Games in 2026 and then to participate in the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games.
“Beyond his sporting success, Connor gives back to our community by volunteering at Deniliquin Little Athletics, mentoring younger athletes and sharing his skills.
“His discipline, humility and commitment make him a positive role model and a worthy recipient.”
