He has played 145 senior games and now 305 reserves games - on top of over 100 junior games - at the club over a 33-year period, an overall total of at least 550 games.
Included in the statistics are seven grand-finals, two senior and five reserves for wonderful memories of four reserves premierships, two of which he was captain, in 2011 and 2013. An onballer, he also co-coached the reserves for a season.
Before the milestone match, the selfless 43-year-old self-employed carpenter who also does farm work told the Yarrawonga Chronicle: “It’s just another game. I don’t think about those things – I just enjoy playing.”
Thomson is regarded as one of the club’s great persons. “His 450 games is an unbelievable effort, from a bloke who has played his entire career at the one club,” Tungamah Football Netball Club President Josh Buerckner said.
“He is a fantastic clubman, and you will often find him umpiring the under 14s or stacking the bar, whatever is required to help out.”
Thomson loves the club. “It’s a great place, it’s really grown. I’ve definitely been there through some bad times but it’s really thriving now and we’ve even had Little Bears Under 10s for the past two or three years.”
