Mitre 10 lost round two, 5-4, then the floodgates swept Newsagency away as Mitre 10 won the third mixed round, 7-2, to give themselves a win - 15 sets 123 games to 11 sets 112 games.
Mitre 10’s top three men - Riley Hamilton, Steve Lowry and Jack McGrillen - led their team, winning three set each.
Deni Newsagency’s top ladies Steph Calder and Monique Gordon were undefeated in their sets.
What might have been?
Mitre 10 lost three sets in tie-breaks. If they had won those three sets, they would have progressed to the final.
In the other game, Peppin Planners were smashed by Eagles - 16 sets 146 games to 10 sets 88 games.
Of the 10 sets Peppin won, seven were won after a tie-break.
