It has been a hectic time on the golf course, with Western Riverina District Golf Association's District Championships at the weekend, followed by Veterans Week of Golf.

There was strong representation from clubs across the region at the weekend, including a good turnout of talented juniors.
On Monday, veteran golfers from across the state had their first day of competition, which continued on Tuesday, yesterday and again today.
In the WRDGA championships played on Sunday as a stroke event, the men’s championship winner was James McLean (Murray Downs) from runner-up Ian Armer (Finley), and Deniliquin dominated the ladies, with championship winner Vicki Brunker and runner-up Jenny Swainger.
Junior champions were Harper Wilson (Murray Downs) and Deniliquin’s Rivah Taylor.

Last Thursday we had a medley stableford with some impressive scores recorded. A-grade winner was Ali Ferguson on 42 points from runner-up Vicki Brunker 41, and B-grade Ann Bull 44 points from runner-up Yvonne Holmes 39.
Saturday was a fourball best ball as part of the WRDGA championships.
Men’s handicap winners were Lachlan Campbell and John Henderson from runners-up Barry Barlow and Albert Liebenberg, and scratch winners Leigh Chappell and Oscar Marshall from runners-up Ashley and Lucas Free (Murray Downs).
Ladies’ handicap winners were Karen Butcher and Jayne Hood from runners-up Jenny Swainger and Rivah Taylor, and scratch winners were Vicki Brunker and Prue Lloyd, from runners-up Mary Polkinghorne and Sharon Pyle (Finley).
In Wednesday’s stableford event the A-grade winner was Jamie Loy 37 points from runner-up Graeme Willoughby 36, and the scores were hot in B-grade with the winner Jaxon O’Donnell on 46 points from runner-up Geoff Bracken 42.
Coming up we have a stableford event tomorrow for the Borella Cup and Rita Barnes Goblet. Next Tuesday is 12 holes Pinehurst, Wednesday is stableford, Thursday is the ladies foursomes championships, then Saturday is medley versus par.
Then fast approaching is the annual Pro-Am as part of the PGA Legends Tour on Monday, October 27 and Tuesday, October 28.
On the Monday, the PGA Seniors NSW Open Pre-Qualifier is a key event on the PGA Legends Tour, providing professional golfers aged 50 and over with a chance to earn a spot in the prestigious NSW Seniors Open.
In the Pro-Am on the Tuesday, three amateur players team up for a 3-person ambrose competition, while their paired PGA Professional plays a traditional stroke round. This offers a fun and competitive day on the course for both amateurs and professionals.
This year’s Spring Classic will be played on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, in the usual fourball best ball format for men and ladies. Entry forms at the pro shop or on the club’s website.
Junior golf clinics will start next Wednesday, October 22 teaching the skill of golf through games and drills in a fun and safe environment. There will be a five week program for primary school age youngsters, held on Wednesdays from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Also coming up is the Summer Sixes 9 hole competition, which starts on November 10. Register at the club as a team, or as an individual, and you will be placed in a team.
Don’t forget Friday Night Fun at the club tonight, with raffle tickets on sale from 6pm and draws from 7pm. Happy hour is from 6pm and meals are available.
