A grand final day performance by legend of Australiana Mike Brady.

The singer behind unofficial football anthem Up There Cazaly will be at the Timberyard on September 12 for the Picola and District League grand final day.

“(It’s) massive, something that hasn't happened around here for a long time,” Mathoura Football Netball Club president Blake Keech said.

“We’ve locked Mike in for a four-song performance at half-time, which is really great.”

Since the release of Up There Cazaly in 1979, written to promote Channel Seven’s football coverage, the tune has become one of the game’s most iconic tracks, regularly performed by Brady on AFL grand final day.

A chance meeting between a board member and a former Cutters’ player who knew Brady got the ball rolling, with Keech reaching out to Brady’s team to get the singer on board for the grand final.

The Mathoura board picked up support from Goodyear Echuca-Moama and the Moama Bowling Club to secure the performance.

Keech said the performance will only add to an already great day of finals football at the Timberyard.

“The best two sides in all grades will be playing off, so it should be a good day for football and netball,” he said.

“I think it just adds an extra layer of interest for neutral supporters that may not be tied up with all the clubs or any of the clubs, but hey, let's go out, and watch a good day of footy and we'll get to chuck this performance in as an added bonus.”

The grand final will mark the last game day for the Picola and District League in its current 16-team form, with North West and South East divisions to form, with separate grand finals, from next season.

The club will keep the party going after the senior decider, with Echuca band Stumbling North to play the after-party.

“It's pretty good for the families and supporters to stick around and have a beer afterwards and reflect on the season that was.”

The Picola and District League grand finals will be held on Saturday, September 12, at Mathoura Recreation Reserve, with the first netball action from 8.50am, and football starting at 9am.
