Elliott took the biggest share of the $12,500 prize pool with a three shot victory over Euan Walters and David Diaz, both with two under par 70.
On a pleasant spring day despite a slight breeze, 40 professional golfers competed in the local event alongside a big team of amateurs.
The amateurs played a 3-person ambrose, with each team grouped with one or two professionals.
Elliott warmed up for the Deni Pro-Am when tied for third place at Griffith the previous day, when he shot a two under par 71.
It was also an excellent warm-up for the NSW Senior Open, to be played this weekend.
It was Elliott’s second win in his past three starts, making him one of the form players on the PGA Legends Tour ahead of this week’s $150,000 event at Thurgoona Country Club Resort.
It was a comfortable three-stroke win for Elliott in Deniliquin, with six birdies and a single bogey in his round.
With the two biggest events on the calendar coming up over the next fortnight, Elliott credits an equipment change for his recent run of form.
“I haven’t been playing very well the last month or so and I’ve just changed putters,” Elliott said after his fourth win of the season.
“I’ve gone back to my old Ping Pal and it’s just started working. When I get to putt on quick, smooth greens, I can putt alright.”
Elliott and numerous other professional golfers on Tuesday praised Deniliquin’s course superintendent, Terry Howe, saying he “has done an amazing job on the golf course”.
“I’ve played a lot of tournaments and pro-ams in my time and those greens were as good as anywhere I’ve played,” Elliott said.
“I’ll try and have a couple of good weeks. There’s going to be a lot of good players there so you’ll have to shoot some good scores,” he said.
Elliott and his fellow professionals were effusive in their praise of the local golf course after their round on Tuesday.
It was described as a “hidden gem”, with some of those here for the first time vowing to return, whether for future professional events or just to enjoy the course again.
Golfers were also impressed with the support they received and friendliness at the local club.
Thanks was widely expressed to Edward River Council, which has continued to support the local Pro-Am, alongside major sponsor Deniliquin Freighters.
Numerous small sponsors were thanked for their contribution to the successful day, including the many local businesses which contributed $500, which allowed them to enter a team in the amateur section.
On Monday, professional golfers competed in a qualifying event for the NSW Senior Open and found the going tough in blustery conditions.
The best scores were recorded by Victorians Nathan Condon with a four over par 76, and Wayne Rogers with a 78.
Amateur results from Tuesday are in the weekly golf column.
