The search was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, said the two people, who were not authorised to publicly discuss an ongoing investigation and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
More details about the investigation were not immediately clear.
The Justice Department said in a statement on Monday that HSI agents executed a judicially authorised search warrant secured by the department in the Washington DC area but provided no other details.
"This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," the department said.
The raid followed a criminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born politician's immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child, Fox News Digital reported citing unidentified sources.
Omar, 44, represents Minnesota's 5th District, including Minneapolis.
She was first elected to the House in 2018 and has been known as a member of what is called "The Squad" of female lawmakers known for their progressive views and pointed opposition to President Donald Trump.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that there was an "ongoing investigation" related in part to whether Omar lied on her immigration forms and that "something's going to happen".
Omar responded to the search with a statement on X that called it an "attempt to target political enemies and weaponise federal law enforcement".
"For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation," she said.
"I will not be silenced."
