Trivia night for Cure for Brain Cancer

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

The Lake Rowan community held a fundraiser trivia night at the local hall to raise funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre and Cure for Brain Cancer Foundation on Friday, October 4.

Many within the community have had friends or family members touched by cancer or suffered from this horrible disease themselves.

In recent times Jodie Lovel, a member of the Lake Rowan Community was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Jodie decided to attend the Cure4Brain Cancer walk event in Albury on October 20 to raise more funds with her family and friends and helped organise the trivia night.

The funds that were raised will help research pathways from the labs to patients and bring world-class clinical trials to Australian patients.

At the trivia night a wonderful amount of $1440 was raised and Walk4Brain Cancer raised a total of $3993.

Overall Walk4Brain Cancer in Albury raised a huge total of $28,000.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in collaboration with Austin Hospital have world leading treatments and care complemented by wellness programs to support patients - body, mind and spirit.

This centre is at the frontier of cancer medicine with ongoing clinical trials, new therapies with researchers and clinicians working together.

The Cure for Brain Cancer Foundation is also dedicated to accelerating the development of new treatments to increase the survival rate of adults and children diagnosed with brain cancer.  Each year about 1600 people are diagnosed with this disease and 1200 people die.

This foundation does not say ‘why?’ but ‘why not?’ and ‘how can we?’

Family and friends donated to the Walk4Brain Cancer which is greatly appreciated and also came along to support Jodie and family on her walk in Albury and Jodie organised a raffle with donations from local businesses.
