Miss Nevinson was one of 19 young women who competed in the Zone 7 Final of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition on Saturday night.
The zone final was hosted by the Finley Show Society in Finley, and attracted 200 people from across the Riverina.
‘‘It was a very tough competition because all of the girls were amazing, but I feel I did my best,’’ Miss Nevinson said.
‘‘It was an amazing opportunity and I have come away with a lot of new connections, including those made within the show industry.
‘‘This has made me more confident in public speaking, and I am grateful for the chance to have been a part of this.’’
The three ladies moving on to represent this zone at the state competition will be Cootamundra’s Jessica Neale, Wagga Wagga’s Kate Webster and Walbundrie’s Aimee Riley.
The next stage of the competition will be hosted at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April.
Other competitors came from Finley, Berrigan, Leeton, Griffith, Ariah Park, Junee, Ungarie, Hillston, Holbrook, Temora, Lockhart, Ganmain, The Rock, West Wyalong and Lake Cargelligo.
The day itself started at the Finley Country Club, with each entrant sitting an interview with a panel of three judges, and entrants and judges came together for a lunch.
The judges included Agricultural Societies of NSW director Brett Kenworthy, The Land’s Olivia Calver, and 2017 The Land Sydney Showgirl Competition second runner-up Isabel Hawken.
‘‘The judges were really friendly and very easy to talk to,’’ Miss Nevinson said.
‘‘They asked me about my interests, future endeavours and issues facing Deniliquin, particularity water, among other political and world questions.
‘‘I believe the judges had a hard decision to make when selecting their winners because all of the girls were incredible , so I wish the girls headed to Sydney the best of luck and I know they will represent our region well.’’
The competition culminated in a formal dinner at the Finley RS Club, which saw entrants interviewed onstage by 2019 The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Stephanie Clancy.
During the evening Stephanie and former Zone 7 state finalist Sarah Cudmore shared their showgirl experience with guests.
