The sun was shining and spirits were high as students nervously lined up waiting for their events.
Before the pool had time to heat up, the events had started and the familiar sound of the starting gun was played on repeat.
All students swam with determination to reach the end of the pool before their neighbouring rivals.
By 11am the school’s highly competitive students took a well-deserved break and allowed the newest additions to the school to shine.
The excitement and enthusiasm of the younger competitors in the novelty events was infectious.
They ferociously thrashed their way across the baby pool during the cork scramble.
Again this year Mathoura Public School focused on sportsmanship as an overarching theme of the day and students did not disappoint.
Staff and spectators were very encouraged to see so many students supporting and cheering for each other as they reached the end of the pool.
Congratulations to Gemma Van Zutphen on receiving the Sportsmanship Award.
As one of the youngest competitors of the day, she confidently entered several events and supported and encouraged all students big and small.
The incredible support from the school community, along with the wonderful sportsmanship displayed by students and high participation levels resulted in a very successful day.
The winning house was Moira, who were closely followed by Gulpa.
Age champions were:
Junior Girl Champion - Jesse Cheep
