The Deni Maccas crew have been actively participating in the annual clean up for more than seven years. This week’s effort was additional to their recent participation in the McLean Beach clean-up in January.
People performance manager Jorja Godfrey said it took only seven crew members to collect more than seven bags of rubbish along the river walk.
‘‘We went from the beach right up to behind the hospital and back down to the river, so we covered a wide area,’’ Miss Godfrey said.
‘‘It was significantly less than previous years which was great to see, but there was still a lot of rubbish.
‘‘It was pleasing to see more community members and especially our younger crew getting involved, not just with the event but all the time.’’
Restaurant manager Josh Berryman said he was passionate about doing his bit for the community.
‘‘I love to sign up to do Clean Up Australia Day every year and I’m proud to play an active role in our neighbourhood,’’ Mr Berryman said.
‘‘McDonalds Australia has been a major sponsor of Clean Up Australia Day since its inception in 1989 and encourages all restaurants to join their local communities to help clean up rubbish.
‘‘Each year we see more and more crew members and management from our restaurant volunteer their time to help, as well as local members of the community.’’
Businesses had their Clean Up Day on Tuesday, with youth and schools participating today. The event finishes on Sunday, March 3 with the national Clean Up Australia Day event.
