The week of celebrations saw two major events booked out with about 100 people attending the movie screening of ‘Ladies in Black’ on February 15 and about 75 seniors enjoying a morning tea at ‘Sherwood’ last Friday.
The University of the Third Age (U3A) committee was delighted with how well the events were supported by the local community.
U3A publicity officer Gayle Beckton said the success could be attributed to the partnership between U3A, Edward River Council and Intereach.
‘‘In previous years we’ve all held separate events and we’ve only attracted about 30 people to them,’’ she said.
‘‘With the partnership this year we managed to have both events booked out so it’s clear this partnership attracted more people.’’
The events for Seniors’ Week were run by volunteers and were free to those who attended.
Mrs Beckton said there were many people to thank for giving up their time to organise these activities.
‘‘Jane and Robin Hood did a fantastic job with their garden at Sherwood,’’ she said.
‘‘They went to a lot of effort and we’re so thankful for that.
‘‘Everybody was happy and very receptive of this year’s events.
‘‘The morning tea at the Sherwood garden was just beautiful and as a bonus we were treated to perfect weather. The movie was well received.
‘‘We’d like to thank everyone who helped organise events and also those who attended for making this one of the best Seniors’ Festivals we’ve held.’’
