Pakistani community a fundraising powerhouse

Floods, fires and earthquakes are no match for the Pakistani Association of the Goulburn Valley’s determination.

PAGV formed in 2019 to connect people from across the region, but that was not its only goal.

The have contibuted funding to assist with the 2019 bush fire recovery and while battling floods in Shepparton themselves, accumulated $16,500 worth of donations to be sent to the Akhuwat Foundation and the Al-khidmat Foundation.

The group’s latest efforts have been devoted towards the Turkish earthquake, with proceeds given to Turkish mosques to support the community.

So far, the PAGV has collected $2500 for this cause.

Two charges over Moama houseboat incident

Two men have been charged with intimidation after nine women on a Murray River houseboat were allegedly terrorised on Saturday.

The men, aged 26 and 28, were each issued with notices to appear in Moama Court on May 11.

A police investigation led police to an Echuca business where three marked police cars - two Victorian and one from NSW - were parked nearby - for more than 90 minutes.

Suring Saturday’s alleged indicent, a group of men on a pontoon boat are reported to have approached a moored houseboat in Moama and asked the women on it if they could come aboard.

The women declined. A few hours later, about 6pm, some of the men allegedly climbed on to the houseboat without permission.

They also allegedly hurled items at the women, and rammed the houseboat with their pontoon.

Concerned for their safety, the women locked themselves upstairs and called the owner of Moama on Murray Houseboats, who quickly arrived to assist the women.

Disturbing footage has since emerged of the incident, where one of the women can be heard pleading with the men to leave them alone.
