Eight participants took the icy plunge, and were later joined by Juanita ‘Skeet’ Arthur, who said she would only take part if fundraising exceeded $1500.
The target was quickly surpassed, and then $3000 went by, earning her two buckets of ice‑cold water to the delight of the crowd.
“It was a massive success and really well received by the community,” Ms Arthur said.
“We’ve already had some people put their hands up for next year.
“It’s going to be bigger and better.”
This year’s line‑up included five IGA staff, two representatives from Edward River Council and one from CWS Removals.
Before each plunge, a quick auction was held, with the highest bidder earning the right to tip the bucket of ice water.
The event carried added significance following the passing of Neale Daniher, the driving force behind FightMND. Daniher lived with MND for 13 years and passed away last week at the age of 65.
Throughout his battle, he became a national symbol of resilience and hope, helping raise more than $100 million for medical research.
Organisers thanked the team members who helped set up and run the event, as well as Splinters Firewood Supplies and Deni Ice for donating the ice.
The total raised included a $500 donation from Deniliquin High School, raised at its own ice bucket challenge last Friday morning.
