Werner, a former Deniliquin boy, had his last ride at Pakenham on Oaks day, finishing second on Locko.
The Paul Kramer trained Locko ($2 fav) led with about 100m to go in the Benchmark 58 (1400) but could not hold off Delightful Hustler ($12).
Although unable to sign off on a winning note, Werner was successful on Our Foxwedge, his only other ride at the meeting.
Our Foxwedge ($2.70 fav) trained by Gary McGreal won the Benchmark 58 (1200m) by a short neck from Be Miss Luchy.
A highlight of Brian’s career was his 1986 Group 1 Newmarket Handicap win on Lockley’s Tradition at Flemington.

The Phil Sweeney trained Free Lunch ($26) was fourth in the Euroa Cup Handicap, at Rating 58 race over 1212m.
Free Lunch held a narrow lead before Fontein Diamond emerged to defeat 12 year-old Play Master by three quarters of a length with Mystery Diamond third.
Barmah Al ($51) unplaced at his first 10 starts finished third in the Rating 58 (2046m).
He settled second and held on well for the minor placing behind Kobe Princess and Wadeema’s Girl.

Cup week closed on a high note with Arcadia Queen and Bivouac dominant in the last two Group 1 races.
Bivouac is expected to resume in the Lightning Stakes in February and hopefully go to Royal Ascot in June.
Melbourne’s riding ranks have never been stronger and the future is assured with emerging talent such as Michael Poy, Lachlan King, Ben Allen and Teodore Nugent.
Apprentice Poy had four rides during Cup week for two wins.
He is the son of four-time Melbourne premier jockey Michael Clarke.
