Footy fun for Deni students

Hayden Howard from EPS.

Local youngsters got their chance to learn some new footy skills and have some fun on the oval as part of the annual Leo Barry Fun Days last week.

Year 3/4 students took part in the program last Thursday, followed by Year 5/6 students on Friday. Both days were hosted at Deniliquin’s Memorial Park.

The fun day is named after Leo Barry Jnr who, after leaving Deniliquin, had a stellar career with the Sydney Swans AFL side.

The timing of the fun days came at an opportune time, with the Chummy Bartlett Shield being hosted at the Hardinge St Oval next Friday.

With competitions in football, netball and Newcombe ball, the shield tournament is named in honour of local sporting legend and junior sports advocate James ‘Chummy’ Bartlett.
