Murray River Police District crime manager, Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown, said three fuel thefts have been reported in Barham in the past week.
This is on top of two reports in Gogeldrie, about 48km south-east of Griffith, where a combined 2400 litres of fuel was reported stolen.
“Police urge anyone with large qualities of fuel, especially those on rural holdings or in remote areas, to increase their security measures.
“This includes improving or adding lock mechanisms, installing CCTV, thinking about floodlighting and sensor lights.
“We would also encourage these high volume users to review the amount they need to have stored on their properties.
“Although we do know that fuel is in increased demand at this time of the year, with sowing and tractors out because of the wet weather.”
Det Chief Insp Brown said it’s also important to report any thefts or attempted thefts, to enable police to target their response as required.
At Gogeldrie, officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team and Murrumbidgee Police District were told 1500L of fuel had been stolen from a property on River Rd, and an additional 900L had been stolen from a truck parked on a property on Brown Rd.
Police were further told an additional unknown amount of fuel had been stolen from a tank on the same Brown Rd property.
Anyone with information about these incidents are asked to contact Griffith Police Station on (02) 6969 4299 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
