Funding for forest project

The 85,000ha Ramsar site comprises the Werai Forest, north-west of Deniliquin, the Millewa group, south of Deniliquin, and the Koondrook-Perricoota Forest and south-east of Barham.

Jamie Hearn, who will manage the project, said the condition of the forests and wetlands was important to the long-term health of the region’s rivers and creeks.

He said it would create local employment opportunities, support landholders and improve the amenity for recreational users.
