Illegal backyard fire

Firefighters were called to a Henry St home in Deniliquin on Monday night after an illegal backyard rubbish fire was reported just after 7.24pm.

The small burn was reported to Deniliquin’s NSW Fire + Rescue, with crews arriving to find the rubbish still alight.

Firefighters extinguished the fire before advising the occupants that backyard burning is not permitted.

Forest false alarm

Deniliquin FRNSW firefighters had an early start on Wednesday when they received a call about a possible fire in the Murray Valley National Park, which runs behind Memorial Park and the Deniliquin Golf Club, and bordering residential areas in the town’s east.

Acting Captain Les Booth said the crew patrolled the forest and found no fire.

Following the smoke sightings, they discovered it was coming from an approved permit burn behind the Deniliquin Golf Club.

Act Capt Booth said the permit is still valid for about a week, and that more smoke may be seen in the area during that time.
