Polly had fronted up for Johanna’s daughter Harriet’s show‑and‑tell at Deniliquin North School earlier in the morning.
Polly was an instant hit, with Johanna laughing that you could definitely tell the farm kids from the town kids by who “waded in, boots‑and‑all” to feed and touch her.
All the kids had a ball and were sad to see her go when they had to leave.
Polly’s day out also tickled our general manager Nigel Lutton, who came across the lamb and her owner having coffee with friend Emily Fellows outside a local shop.
Highway traffic changes
Changed traffic conditions are in place on the Cobb Highway at Deniliquin this week as the first stage of safety upgrades begins on Hardinge St between Harfleur and Wood streets.
Work started yesterday, and will run day and night for about four weeks, weather permitting.
Lane closures, traffic control and a 40 km/h speed limit apply, with oversize vehicles over 5m to be escorted through the site by site staff.
Motorists are urged to follow signage and directions, drive to conditions, and allow an extra five minutes of travel time.
Updates are available via Live Traffic NSW by searching ‘Hardinge St – Deniliquin’ and selecting ‘follow’.
Rovers call for club history
The Deniliquin Rovers Football & Netball Club is calling on past and present players, members and supporters to help preserve the club's history ahead of its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2027.
As part of the milestone, the club is compiling a commemorative history book and is seeking photographs, newspaper clippings, premiership memorabilia, old jumpers, newsletters, programs, video footage and other items that help tell the Rovers story.
The club is particularly interested in material from before 2013, with organisers keen to uncover and document the club's earlier years.
Former players and families are also encouraged to share memories, stories, anecdotes and multi-generation family connections to the club.
Anyone with photos, memorabilia or historical information is asked to contact Rebecca Flisher at deniliquin.rovers@outlook.com or send the club a Facebook message.
New support group
Trans, gender‑diverse and non‑binary people in need of a safe, friendly space are invited to join the Trans and Gender Diverse Peer Support Group starting on Tuesday, June 18 at 5.30 pm.
The group will meet every second Thursday, and welcomes anyone aged 16 plus to attend. The aim is to connect, share resources and support each other.
Gatherings include tea, coffee, nibbles and plenty of conversation in a relaxed environment.
For more details, including the meeting venue, email TGD.Deniliquin@gmail.com.
Jett Liu to debut
Congratulations to former Deniliquin local Jett Liu, 22, who will make his NRL debut this weekend.
Jett will come off the bench for the Gold Coast Titans in their clash with the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.
It’s a huge milestone for the young forward, with plenty of Deni eyes sure to be on the game as one of our own steps on to the big stage.
