Funding for the project was allocated in July last year, which will cover the full cost of the project.
The $185,000 project will deliver internal alterations and a 45m² extension.
Councillors unanimously supported the development application, with Cr Shirlee Burge saying the project would significantly enhance the facility.
“The library is great, and it will be even more magnificent after the upgrade.”
The works include new internal partitioning to create a dedicated computer room and a genealogy room.
The extension building will create a new study space at the rear of the library, jutting out toward Orana.
Council said the upgrade would provide a more private and focused setting for the Genealogy Society and local history researchers, who will benefit from a purpose‑built area separate from the main library floor.
Library users who require a quiet space for public computer use will also see improvements through the redesigned layout.
An additional flexible room will be created to support work‑from‑home members, school and tertiary students, while also offering a venue for workshops, educational programs and community meetings without disrupting general library activity.
