However, growing up in Cobram meant she was required to move to Melbourne to pursue her dream.
Had she not received the Lift Off Scholarship, her goal might have been out of reach.
“Without the scholarship I don’t know if moving to Melbourne would have been a viable option,” she said.
The Lift Off Scholarship has been running since 2014 and is designed to support school leavers or young people returning to study. The scholarships range from $2000 for one year to $10,000 for three years.
Ms Corso received the scholarship in 2015 while studying animal and veterinary biosciences at La Trobe University.
She later went on to complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University Of Melbourne.
Receiving the scholarship meant she “didn’t have to worry about barely scraping by”.
As applications open once again, Ms Corso is encouraging interested young people to apply.
After graduating, she returned to Cobram, as giving back to her local community was important to her.
She has gone on to specialise in emergency care, something she was motivated to do given the area was in high demand.
“We live in an area where we have a lot of emergencies, we live in an area where snake bites are common, heat stress is common, injuries are common,” she said.
“There’s a huge need for emergency services in this area.”
Ms Corso said scholarships such as Lift Off were important in getting more regional people to enter the professions.
“Without having scholarships like this you’ll find it hard to get regional people in professions,” she said.
Applications for the 2027 round of the Lift Off Scholarship are now open and will remain open until December 14. For more information or to apply, visit tinyurl.com/bdf4t99m
