Mathoura Football Netball Club and members of the Mathoura community got around the Fight MND cause earlier this month.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
The football and netball club held their own Big Freeze Fight MND event, raising more than $3000, which was added to the Big Freeze Echuca Moama event tally.
The club thanked everyone who helped raise money at the event, with several players and members who had a go in the dunk tank.
The club also thanked Moama Bakery for their donation of bread for the barbecue on the day, It’s Party Time for the use of their dunk tank under supervision and the volunteers, who held stalls, planned activities, organised the food and ran the day.
The event was held the day before the Echuca Moama Big Freeze event on the King’s Birthday Monday.
Hundreds of people packed the Rich River Golf Club grounds to watch 18 brave locals to ride the slide into an ice-cold pool at the event.
Cutter representative Phoebe Keech was one of the sliders on the day, with the Echuca Moama Big Freeze effort raising more than $145,000.
The Big Freeze sliders got creative with their costumes.

High school Open Day
Deniliquin High School is inviting the community to check out the school at its Open Day this Sunday.
Running from 12pm to 3pm, the event is open to prospective students from Years 7 to 12, along with parents, guardians, past students and community members interested in learning more about the school.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the campus through small guided tours, running every 15 minutes from 12.30pm.
Rally route change
Deniliquin’s winter 2026 Shitbox Rally team the Deni Angels of Chaos are setting off for their week-long journey across Australia this week.
And it’s already been a slightly bumpy road.
Participants this week found out that permission to cross the Birdsville Track has been withdrawn.
And with rain predicted, another route change was handed down on Wednesday.
While the ralliers are still going to take on the trip from Mildura to Townsville, they have now moved on to ‘plan C’ after the disruptions, but say it is all part of the shitbox rally experience.
Free child car seat safety checks will be held in Deniliquin next Thursday, June 25 from 10am to 2pm at the Intereach car park in Trickett St.
Children who are not restrained correctly are seven times more likely to sustain life-threatening injuries in a crash than those who are properly secured.
So make sure your child is safe with a free inspection by an Transport for NSW Authorised Restraint Fitter.
You may have noticed page two has looked a little different for the past two weeks.
We’ve decided to take a short break from Tackle Tales as the weather cools and the excuses for leaving the rod in the shed get longer with every degree that drops.
But if you’ve braved the conditions and landed a fish, or if you’ve got a handy tip for someone new to the water, we still want to hear from you.
