This letter is to all concerned Edward River Council residents, including ratepayers, residents and long stay visitors.
ERC’s very recent announcement regarding Ochre Medical Centre Deniliquin’s future has struck a vulnerable nerve in the ERC community.
Particularly so when the community is daily struggling to handle the shortage of available medical appointments.
I’m surprised that ERC has chosen to deliver this first brief news at such short notice.
Thank you to Lourene Liebenberg for her helpful supplementary information (on social media).
While comments over the weekend have been both numerous and critical, I believe it’s now time to move on.
The question is, how can we best deal with this situation?
I suggest a start would be a public meeting, inviting ERC, where council could better inform the community and questions could be asked.
It can be done! Sadly, I am no longer able to tackle this organisational task, but I know there are any number of younger very capable community members, both women and men, well able to manage the job.
If a few of you could get together and organise the gathering, I’m sure the support would be there.
Many people will feel the need to get it sorted, but are not quite sure where to start.
The ERC community has a right to expect full information from the council, remembering always that Edward River Council, from the Mayor down, was elected to serve the Edward River community!
Yours etc.
Eileen Mason
