Nearly $39K awarded for accessibility boost for local sport

Four local sporting clubs and associations will each benefit from up to $25,000 to boost participation and accessibility.

State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced on Friday, February 20 that Longwood Football Netball Club, Riding for the Disabled Association of Victoria in Seymour, Seymour Cricket Club and Next Ability Academy in Seymour would all benefit from the Victorian Government’s Regional All Abilities Participation Grants.

This funding stream is set to strengthen and expand opportunities for people with disability on and off the sporting field.

The Longwood Football Netball Club has received nearly $3000 to build an “inclusive and safe future”.

Seymour’s Riding for the Disabled branch received over $4000 for therapeutic saddle pads and close-contact saddles for riders with disability.

The local cricket club was granted over $7000 to purchase a bowling machine for inclusive training sessions.

Finally, Next Ability Academy has been awarded $25,000 to run training clinics for elite country AFL players with intellectual disability.

“We’re delighted to support more programs that open up more all-abilities opportunities for Victorians — as instructors, coaches, volunteers or administrators,” Ms Symes said.

“This initiative creates inclusive spaces where people with disability can not only participate — but kick-start new opportunities to learn and excel in a range of roles in the sports they love.”
