Hopes are rising that the old Yarrawonga Primary School will soon be in the hands of Moira Shire Council, paving the way for the development of a community hub.
CEO Matthew Morgan said Council had met with the Victorian Government and confirmed its intent to acquire the former Yarrawonga Primary School site in Tom St.
“The matter is now progressing through the prescribed process, which includes the final site valuation process to be undertaken by the Valuer-General’s office,” Mr Morgan said.
“It is understood that there is a large volume of work sitting with that office, however, we have been advised that the process should be completed by the end of December 2026, which should enable the actual transfer of land to occur in the first quarter of 2027.
“Council is actively monitoring and inquiring on the status of the internal government processes and has requested a further meeting with the Victorian Minister for Finance to expedite the process where possible.”
Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre executive officer, Julie-Anne Clarke said the organisation was on a high after hearing the news, which they hope will lead to a new, permanent home for the YMCLC.
“We’re excited what this means for the community,” Ms Clarke said.
