One of the Shire’s most dangerous intersections is to be improved after lobbying from residents, Yarrawonga CFA, SES and the Council in recent years.
Moira Shire Council has secured a $544,000 grant to target the intersection of Old Wilby Road and Channel Road near Yarrawonga, under the Federal Government’s Black Spot program.
The notorious intersection recorded five crashes between 2019 and 2023, three of which resulted in serious injuries requiring hospitalisation.
Planned works include raised safety platforms, upgraded signage, kerb and channel works, improved delineation and lighting, and other road safety treatments.
A reduction in the speed limit to 80 km/h is also being considered.
