OAM for farming champion

Peter Dowling has been honoured posthumously for his service to primary industries, yesterday awarded an OAM in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Mr Dowling was proprietor of a Merino stud at ‘Keri-Keri’ in Moulamein and took on a number of advocacy roles for the district.

His citation particularly celebrates that he was the inaugural chairman of the Riverina Board of the State Council of Rural Lands Protection Boards in 1988.

He remained a director on the board until 2005.

Mr Dowling also served as chairman and director of the Moulamein Pastures Protection Board in the 1980s, until the formation of the Riverina board through merger.

He was, due to his position, heavily in that amalgamation of the Deniliquin and Moulamein Pastures Protection Boards.

Other roles Mr Dowling has been honoured for is being an executive councillor and delegate to the Livestock and Grain Producers' Association of NSW from 1978 to 1980 and executive councillor and delegate to the Riverina Graziers' Association of NSW in the 1960s and ‘70s.
