Water that was causing minor inundation upstream of us in the Murray system has finally made its way to Deniliquin.

At the time of going to print yesterday, the Edward River at Deniliquin had risen to 3.4m.
Before reaching us, the rising water forced the beach closure at Tocumwal where it peaked at 5.7m on August 16.
While the Deni reading is still 1m shy of official minor flood levels, the community is reminded to be cautious.
The higher river levels did impact on the Beach to Beach walk between McLean Beach and Willoughby’s Beach, prompting a modified parkrun course which saw participants turn back to McLean Beach after reaching the National/Kolety Bridge.
Continue to take care around the river, and always follow any signage or directions in place.
Fishing season closing
There is plenty going on in local waterways with spring approaching, but recreational fishers are reminded that the Murray cod and Murray crayfish seasons close next Tuesday.
Keen fishers have one week to get their crayfish and cod fix.
Murray Cod cannot be taken in inland waters from September 1 to November 30, except from Copeton and Blowering dams.
The closure on Murray Crayfish also starts on September 1 and runs through to May 31.
Cast for cash

Just in time to be used as a final hurrah for fishing season, the Edward River Fishing Club will host its 2026 Cast for Cash Murray Cod Closing Competition this Saturday.
With headquarters based at the Deniliquin Boat Club, the catch‑and‑release competition will see teams of two compete under a points‑based scoring system, with $2200 for first, $1000 for second, and $500 for third.
Entries are still being accepted with $250 per team of two, payable at Deniliquin Outdoors & Camping on Davidson St. Payment is cash only, or via direct deposit.
Community members are invited to join entrants at the Friday and Saturday evening events at the Boat Club, including this Friday’s major raffle valued at more than $2000.
