Held at the Wakool Services Club, 14 volunteers braved the icy dunk tank while residents supported the cause through donations, a raffle and auction.
The idea came from Maree Whelan, who said she had long been inspired by the annual Big Freeze at the MCG and the determination of Neale Daniher.
“I've had the idea for a little while and really enjoy watching the Big Freeze at the G," Mrs Whelan said.
“Neale Daniher was such a lovable character. He enjoyed having a joke, had a cheeky grin that was contagious, and just had a positive outlook on everything in life. His story drew me in."
One message stuck with her and support quickly followed.
“His inspirational speeches really impacted me and in particular him saying, 'The mark of a person isn't what they say ... it's what they do'.
“It made me think, geez, if he could do all that while fighting this horrible disease, then surely I can do something too.
“We approached local businesses, community groups, farmers, etcetera to join us, either by volunteering a person to get dunked, sponsoring the event or by donating an item/service for the auction.
"We had 14 dunkees happy to put their hand up and brave the cold for such a great cause."
Before the dunking began, the crowd paused to remember the reason behind the fundraiser with a minute of silence for Daniher.
Mrs Whelan said the response had exceeded all expectations.
“Absolutely incredible for such a small community. I still cannot believe it, it has far surpassed anything I could have imagined," she said.
“I am sure the Daniher Family would be over the moon with our efforts. Stay tuned for next year."
