Just over two years after implementing the ‘three bin’ waste system, a survey is being conducted to determine how it is being used.

A contractor is undertaking the survey of residential bins presented for collection across the Edward River Council area.

The survey will help council better understand what is being placed in household bins (red, yellow and green) and identify opportunities to improve recycling, reduce waste sent to landfill, and enhance waste services and education programs.

Explaining the survey, council says:

Some households will be randomly selected for assessment.
Bin contents will be collected on your normal collection day.
No action is required from residents.
All information will be analysed and reported in a way that protects household privacy.

Selected households will not be contacted prior, as the survey aims to provide an accurate picture of everyday waste and recycling habits.

A council spokesperson said: “Every item placed in the right bin makes a difference. By recycling correctly and reducing waste where possible, we can all help keep valuable materials out of landfill and support a cleaner, more sustainable community.”
