Police were called to Middleton St in Tungamah about 11.55pm on Wednesday, September 17, after reports of a man behaving erratically.
Police said the man became aggressive when officers tried to talk to him and capsicum spray was used.
The man entered a nearby property and was arrested by police a short time later, police said.
A 35-year-old man from Rainbow Beach in Queensland was charged with assaulting police and other offences.
He will face Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on the charges.
