Shepparton police searched the home of a 44-year-old Shepparton man on Friday, June 5, where they located 133 allegedly stolen items stashed around the unit.
Among the items were power and hand tools, ovens, range hoods, skylights, cooktops and a kitchen sink, some still packaged with labels identifying businesses and building site addresses police believe they were stolen from.
Police said they were tipped off by a man who recognised a power tool that had been stolen from him for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
He had contacted the seller through the social media platform, expressing his interest in purchasing the item, before discovering the accused’s whereabouts and handing the information to police.
Shepparton police have charged the 44-year-old man, who was on bail at the time, with 14 offences, including one count of handle, receive and retain stolen goods, three counts of theft, two counts of burglary, four counts of assaulting police and four counts of resisting police.
He was released after an appearance before a bail justice on the night of June 5.
Some of the property has been returned to owners who were able to be identified from packaging labels.
