The Deniliquin track and surrounds will be in excellent condition for horses and patrons at the club’s Cup Day meeting tomorrow.
Dale has accepted with the Southern Riverina cups’ king Eamonn’s Memory, with jockey Bradley Vale having been nominated for the veteran galloper to make his way to Deni.
He finished a well beaten second last in a tougher race at Seymour last Sunday.
The 8-year-old gelding would be the class runner in the field, but with a heavy weight impost of 63kg. He won the Berrigan, Jerilderie and Deniliquin Gold Cups last year, and followed it up recently with the Griffith Cup and another Jerilderie Gold Cup victory.
Dale could have a second string to his bow if Eamonn’s Memory is a non-starter, with another veteran galloper in Copperfield which has finished fourth to his stablemate in his last two outings.
Bendigo-trained Alternate, winner of the RSL Club Diggers Cup at the local races on Anzac Day, will be seeking another Deni win for trainer Stacey Kirkpatrick. He was well beaten when returning from a spell in a tough race at Bendigo four weeks ago, but will be more suited tomorrow.
A big chance in the Deni Gold Cup should be Benalla galloper Zetalyn, which was narrowly beaten by Eammon’s Memory in the Jerilderie Cup last month. The 5-year-old mare has consistent form, but has only been able to record two wins in 23 starts.
The cup is the highlight of a six-race program at Deniliquin, which kicks off with a 1000m maiden at 1.35pm.
The day coincides with major metropolitan meetings with The Everest at Randwick, in Sydney, and the time-honoured Caulfield Cup at Caulfield, in Melbourne.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite or at the gate. Tickets are $25 for adults and under 18s are free.
As usual, there will be a fun country atmosphere and lots of entertainment.
A pleasant spring day is expected, with the temperature in the mid 20s.
Fashions on the Field always creates plenty of interest and will be a highlight of the day. Categories are Junior Girls & Boys, Senior Girls & Boys, Millinery, Lady of the Day, Contemporary Lady of the Day, Gentleman of the Day, and Couple of the Day.
The punter is well catered for at Deniliquin races with a large undercover betting ring that includes local and metropolitan bookmakers, as well as TAB facilities.
Catering services will include a licensed bar and food available for hungry racing patrons.
Since the club’s Anzac Day meeting earlier this year, work has continued to ensure the track and surrounds are in tip top condition for both horse racing and those seeking a social day out.
Race day gates open at 12 noon, with the main bar and Peppercorn Marquee also opening at noon. Peppercorn Marquee tickets are still available on Eventbrite.
Buses will run from various locations in Deniliquin taking patrons to the racecourse, and returning after the last race.
