Unfortunately, the second quarter saw us drop our heads and go into our shells.
Tocumwal took full momentum and got a very handy lead on us.
But to the young Redeyes’ credit, they came back playing some very good quality footy.
Although the boys fought hard, we couldn’t quite get back in front of them.
Best on went to ever reliable captain Xander Strong followed by Sam Conallin, Dylan Gordon Harrison, Hudson Kelly, Charlie Hetherington and Andrew Frost.
Final score: Blighty 8.6 (54) def by Tocumwal 13.8 (86).
Fourths
The Blighty fourths made their best start of the season on a foggy morning at home, kicking the first two goals of the game and setting the tone early.
There were some great improvements across the team, with Jordy Brain and Daniel Burn combining well through the midfield to move the ball quickly into our forward line.
Another highlight was Lucas Hovenden taking a strong mark under pressure from Tocumwal.
Every player contributed and worked hard throughout the match, making it a difficult task to select this week’s award winners.
The Good Sports award went to Darcy Cleve for always bringing a positive attitude and encouraging his teammates.
Best on Ground went to Daniel Burn.
Other award winners were Degan Morgan for his consistent work rate, Liam Gordon for winning the contested ball, Jordy Brain for his athleticism and Ben Macdonald for never giving up and chasing the ball right through until the final quarter.
Final score: Blighty 7.6 (48) def by Tocumwal 15.8 (98).
Fifths
Our junior Redeyes were back on our home deck this week as we took on Tocumwal on a chilly winter morning.
We got off to a slow start again in the first quarter.
Tocumwal moved the ball forward with accurate kicking and strong marking, which put us on the back foot early.
To our credit, we mixed it well with them at the end of the quarter to give us some momentum going into the rest of the game.
After quarter time, we moved players around into different positions.
It worked well and resulted in good teamwork, moving the ball from the backline into the forward line and resulting in some well deserved goals.
Final score: Not scored.
Awards: Felix, Franklin, Eli, Jack M, Alfie and Kayden.
