With five rounds left of the schedule, now is the time to secure finals places or fight for those last morale boosting wins before the regular season concludes on August 8.
In senior football, Katandra is the side to beat, a perfect 11-0, while the likes of regular top dog Waaia and Strathmerton also look strong.
In the A-grade netball, Tungamah is the unbeaten leader, with Dookie and Katandra a game back.
For local sides Mathoura and Picola United, finals look a distant prospect for all but the Blues’ top flight netball team, but there is still plenty to fight for in both sports.
The Picola A-grade side sits currently in the last finals spot with a 6-5 record, but is likely to hang on, holding a two-game gap to Barooga.
Seventh looks like the ceiling for the side as Katamatite sits one game ahead, but sixth-placed Waaia is a further two clear.
In football, after winning its opening four games, Picola has managed only a draw from its next seven, slipping from near the top of the ladder to outside the finals.
The Blues’ finals quest isn’t dead and buried just yet, but current form would indicate they will be hard-pressed to make up the two-game gap to the top eight.
After its first senior win Mathoura is hoping to grab another over the remaining month.
Mathoura’s football side ended more than 750 days of heartache, its first victory in almost two years coming against Katunga in its most recent fixture.
The win has the Timbercutters in 14th and there is some hope they could add to their tally, with two of their next three games against sides without a win.
In netball, the Cutters are still searching for that first success, having struggled to keep touch with most opponents throughout the year.
Mathoura will be looking forward to its July 25 meeting with Blighty, the league’s other winless squad, as an opportunity to try and secure that maiden victory before season’s end.
The Picola league resumes this Saturday, as Mathoura visits Rennie, while Picola United will be at home to Tocumwal.
